Plaice is a well-known flatfish in our European waters. Characteristic of a flatfish is that the eyes are on one side at the top of the head. Plaice has a brown / green top with orange dots. The ventral side is white in color. Plaice occurs in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean from Greenland to Norway. The plaice are also found in the North Sea to the Mediterranean Sea. Plaice feeds on small bottom fish, but also crustaceans are on the menu. Plaice swims to a depth of 250m, and can live to be 50 years old.
