The striped tuna is called international Skipjack tuna. This specimen is a small tuna-like species found in tropical and subtropical waters. The most beautiful specimens from European waters are found in the waters around the Azores and the Canary Islands, but are also caught in the Pacific Ocean near Japan. Skipjack tuna can reach a length of 1 meter with a weight of 34 kg. Skipjack lives at a depth of 260 m, and can live to be 12 years old. Skipjack has a dark purple / blue back flared to a silver-colored belly side and has 4 to 6 characteristic thick black stripes on the belly.
