Until recently, the acai berry (pronounced: ass-ie berry) was virtually unknown outside its area of origin in the Amazon. But now the tiny berry (Euterpe oleraceae) has a worldwide reputation as a superfood or 'superfruit'. It is used in everything from fruit juices and food supplements to cosmetics.
